26/06/2008 Star Warz XL
Last, but certainly not least, the Star Warz XL review. This one was announced as “The Insane Line up Edition”, and I couldn’t agree more! Klute, Ed Rush, Amit, AI, D-Bridge, Fierce, Skream and on and on..
Aight folks, first of all, sorry for the late review on this one, but I will never ever forget this edition. I skipped last edition due to tickets arriving too late, and I’ve heard it was quite the kinder garden, but oh no, not this time.
We arrived at The Vooruit around 1AM, and after wandering around for a bit, we arrived in the ballroom. Artificial Intelligence was doing his thing. He played some rollers and quite some funky tunes, but I wasn’t feeling it. Maybe it’s because I’m a dj myself, but he kept killing the flow with way too many breaks, I know tastes can differ, so we went for a walk again, after all, it was the XL edition, so boyscouting the Vooruit is quite normal.
When we arrived at the main room, Amit was dropping some beats, but apart from “Gatecrasher” and a few others, I find his releases rather poor & monotone..
Awesome move from One87 to book one of the biggest dubstep producers in the “smallest” room, the foyer. When we entered the foyer, Flim from SKREAM was being dropped, get ready for some dubstep skankin’! Fuckin awesome atmosphere in the foyer; small, cousy, and hot beyond imagination.
Due to sweating like a pig we decided to head back to the ballroom, Klute was finishing up his set, Hell Hath No Fury from the man himself was dropped, insane drumpatterns kind of determine Klute’s tunes, I bet that has something do to with the fact that he was a drummer in a previous life.
Now… Ed Rush’s oldschool set…
What can I say? Forget about the rest, this one just bumped up to best set of the year, no doubt about that. I said to The Nitrous: “I’m gonna go mental and de-attach this motherfucking arm like there’s no tomorrow if he opens with Konflict - Messiah”, and suddenly, the sickest and one of the best intro tunes was dropped..Jep, that one.
After that it was classic galore, Messiah was quickly followed by Bad Company - The Pulse.. He played so many known tunes, I don’t even know where to begin.. 4 days by Bad Company mixed with Stakka & Skynet - Side Effects, this one surely deserved a rewind, it got one, and yes, another one.. Other tunes in the like of Compound by Ed Rush himself in collaboration with Optical, Altitude by Stakka & Skynet, double dropped with the classic of classics: Bad Company - The Nine. We were on the edge of our seat for the entire set, anxiously waiting what tune he was going to play next. My shoulders were still soar 3 days after Star Warz.
To sum up, this was one of the best Star Warz I’ve ever been to. And it’s safe to say I wasn’t the only one
Thank you Mr Ed!
